Alesund

Alesund is a seaport noted for its Art Nouveau architecture. Similar to about every town we visited, this town once was full of wooden buildings that were lost in fire. Now, the buildings are stone or something non-flammable! If wood is on the outside, there is layer of stone underneath.

Nancy and I took a bus tour of this town, which includes 3 islands. There are bridges to connect the islands. There are also underwater tunnels to connect the islands. We sat on opposite sides of the bus, so, we have different pictures!

At the Lighthouse museum.

This is the one I liked the best.

Those are surfers out there!

Back through town.

 Good Night!!

  2. I'm amazed that there are surfers! I love the architecture in these towns and am struck by how many cars are snow-covered. Are folks just not driving much in these towns or is it cold enough that the snow never melts? I wonder what it must be like to be this isolated from many services and conveniences we take for granted.
