We are definitely above the Arctic Circle!! It is cold, and we really know what an Arctic Blast feels like!
Temps are in the double digit minus categories. We started out with a walk from the ship, in Solvaer. We did not last long. Anything not covered was burning.
The sun does not rise until almost 11 am and sets before 2 pm now. These pictures were taken around 9 am...
It was really too cold to stay out. We went back to the ship and viewed the incredible area through the glass. Notice the flag flying straight out... That wind was harsh.
This area is so gorgeous. I remember seeing it in June. I thought then that I would love to see it in the winter. Now, I want to see it in the summer, again.
The mountains are tremendous. Probably about 6,000 feet above sea level.
Who knows how far they go, under the sea.
We had a late excursion to Stokmarknes and another little village.
We visited the Hadsel octagonal Church built in 1824.
It was quite etherial. It sounded like we were under the ocean. Very cool experience.
We also checked out the Hurtigruten museum, and then headed back to the ship for a late dinner.
Ready for bed and a big day tomorrow. Good night!
The colors are just fascinating!! Thanks for braving the cold and wind so we can enjoy the great pictures---hope you have lots of layers --stay warm !!
